First, you must know your lady. Know what she enjoys wearing, what makes her feel sexy and alluring. Style in this area of clothing is most important. You can find what she loves to wear to entice you in several ways. The easiest way is to look at what she already has in her closet. As you look through, make sure she is not present; remember what she wears most often as this is a good indication of what she feels great wearing.

Another way to find out is to make comments on things you see together on TV, in magazines, catalogs she receives and movies. Her reaction will tell you if she is into that style or not. Lastly, you can let her know what you find most attractive on her. You must be subtle and honest in this aspect. Say things like, ‘wow you would look great in that’ or ‘you have the curves to make that work’. I think you get the idea.

Next you need a basic knowledge of terms associated with lingerie, terms such as a corset, bustier, chemise, slip, and babydoll to name a few. These are the predominant terms. Be sure you know her size. If in doubt go smaller; she will not be upset if you think she is a small and not a medium. However, if you go the other way, you may inadvertently offend her and ruin the romance, and sentiment of the gift.

A corset is characterized by being firm and having boning, the long metal strips which holds the corset’s shape. Corsets typically have a back hook and eye closure and tie front. This is the hardest thing to buy for a woman, as sizing can be extremely difficult to pin point. Your best bet is to find one she owns and stick with that size and maker or designer.

Corsets are also a love or hate feeling for most women. They do not move very easily and take some effort to put on. Make sure you know she LOVES them before you buy, they can be very expensive. Corsets are not usually designed with straps; the front ties make it so that is not necessary, which also increases her cleavage. This style is great for the hour-glass figure, and very voluptuous women.

Bustiers are like a cousin to the corset. They have boning, but much more movement, and almost always have straps. Bustiers are also characterized buy having underwire or another form of breast support, as they do move more freely. Bustiers are usually sold with matching underwear. Be sure the matching underwear is in a style your girl will wear.

The bottom most portion of the bustier itself typically stops above the belly-button. But some are designed lower. If your girl has a long torso, try to find a longer bustier; they are called long-line. Avoid showing too much stomach if she has recently had a child, lost weight or has a scar she is not comfortable showing. This style works well for petite body types.

Chemises, slips and babydolls are all somewhat related, and are sometimes interchanged terms. A chemise typically has very thin straps, spaghetti style, and matching underwear (almost always a thong or g-string). The length will end just above the curve of her behind. You can buy separate underwear styles to match. A slip will cover her rear and traditionally has not been associated with sexy and erotic lingerie, but as I said earlier the terms are interchangeable. The slip is usually not sold with matching panties, but you can find some to match.

A babydoll is almost always wispy and falls off of her body. It is always sold with matching underwear. The most common babydoll style is the fly-away. It is cut up the middle of the chest to show her stomach. It too has underwire, to support the breast. These styles work for almost any body type, size and shape. However, be sure you know which will work well for your lady’s curve and shape; the one you will love her in.

Fabric is as important as style. Once again, check for this in her wardrobe, and ask questions or probe for her preferences. Silk and lace are great for a classy or elegant look. Satin is good too, and less expensive. Sheer and see through are a bit risky, or risqué. Like the corset some women love it, some hate it.

This is a short overview of some things to consider. Don’t be afraid to ask the women in the shops or on the phone for advice. I skipped a few styles such as bra and panty sets, garter sets, body stockings and teddies (there are others and combinations of these). All of which can be found at almost any retailer.

These are of course my opinions and are based on my experiences speaking with and buying lingerie for my fiance. The best way to spice up the bedroom is through communication. The more you ask; the more you will know. I know I concentrated on what she feels sexy in, but women also want to please us, so express your likes and desires to her as well.
